I'm Sammy.
Hello! If you’re reading this, yay, and welcome! You’re probably curious about what I bring to the table as both a counselor and a human, so I’ll do my best to give you a little insight.
My Story
I grew up in Juneau, Alaska, and made my way to Bozeman right after high school in 2015. After a couple of detours (I blame the mountains and a not-yet-fully-developed frontal lobe), I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development from Montana State University. Learning about child development got my wheels turning in a way nothing else had. Something clicked, and I found a field that genuinely excited and inspired me.
While earning my degree, I had the opportunity to teach at a local outdoor preschool, where I spent nearly six years working alongside children and their families. I loved helping kids build resilience and a strong sense of self, develop emotional literacy and social skills, and, of course, reading Eloise and The Grumpy Monkey whenever requested. Just as meaningful was working alongside parents, helping with tough drop-offs and getting to hear the stories, doubts, challenges, and joys that come with raising little humans.
That experience ultimately led me to earn my Master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of Montana. I know, I know… I’m both a Bobcat and a Grizzly. I hope we can move through this together! ;) My graduate work emphasized school counseling while also allowing me to pursue clinical training and deepen my understanding of how to support children, adolescents, and families in a therapeutic setting.
My work is grounded primarily in an attachment-based and relational lens. I believe our early experiences and relationships stay with us, shaping how we understand ourselves, connect with others, and eventually show up in our own relationships and parenting. Exploring those experiences with curiosity and compassion can create meaningful opportunities for growth and change.
As a counselor, I value authenticity, connection, and humor, especially when working with children. I believe a strong sense of self and the ability to trust in our inherent worth grow through genuine, safe relationships where we feel seen, understood, and accepted.
I’m also committed to continuing to learn, from my clients, my supervisor, and the field I feel very lucky to be a part of. I look forward to connecting with you!
